Bell Asset Management Boosts Investment Team with 3 new hires

Bell Asset Management, a leading global equities boutique manager, is pleased to announce the expansion of its investment research team with three key appointments. This expansion underscores Bell Asset Management’s commitment to robust fundamental bottom-up company research. Bell Asset Management’s overall philosophy is to identify companies with sustainable competitive advantages that can consistently generate above average returns on capital.

Bell Asset Management has a successful track record spanning over two decades with assets under management now totaling over $AUD 5.2 billion.

Three Key Appointments to Investment Team

Reporting directly to Ned Bell, Chief Investment Officer, Darshana Nair Syama assumed the role of Global Equities Analyst at the firm in late 2023.

In collaboration with the broader investment team, Darshana will help drive the firm’s core “Quality at a Reasonable Price” investment framework. With solid experience in equity research and analysis, Darshana joins BAM from Goldman Sachs where she worked for five years as a consumer, travel, retail, and gaming analyst. Previously, she worked at HSBC in India where she was responsible for covering the European media and satellites sector.

Bringing over a decade of investment experience, Johnson Weng was appointed as a Global Equity Analyst in January 2024. Johnson’s strong understanding of IT and Communication Services sectors, coupled with his experience at Kiwi Wealth and Mercer, positions him as a key asset in Bell Asset Management’s expanding investment team. Johnson's insights and analysis will play a pivotal role in shaping BAM's investment strategies and idea generation in the global equities landscape.

In January 2024, BAM also welcomed Katrina Lee as an Equity Analyst. Katrina’s appointment highlights BAM's commitment to fostering young talent and further integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG)principles into its investment philosophy.

Ned Bell, Chief Investment Officer at Bell Asset Management, expressed his enthusiasm for the recent appointments stating:

"We are thrilled to have Darshana, Johnson, and Katrina join our team. Their expertise and knowledge of key industry sectors will enhance our existing investment team and strengthen our research capabilities.

Over 21 years we have developed a disciplined, research-led approach to stock selection, that has produced consistent returns for our clients through a variety of market cycles,” he continues.

“As an active investment manager, BAM acknowledges the critical significance of attracting and retaining top-tier investment talent. These appointments highlight our ongoing focus and dedication to delivering value to our clients.”

These new appointments strengthen Bell Asset Management's investment team, which now has 11 skilled professionals.
